Diversion of existing HV services and demolition of former Skychefs building

We were awarded the job to complete the full demolition works of the former Skychefs building located in Manchester Airport's Freight Terminal. Due to the size of the building and area the work span across 26 weeks.

The project began with the task of diverting the existing HV services running under the building and constructing a new substation. The installation of ducts and new HV services were connected to the new and existing substation. This included the renewal of the HV to the airport fuel farm. As part of the job the existing water and gas supplies were diverted out of the building and back to the main supply runs.

The safe removal of all asbestos was carried out, followed by a soft stripping of the building prior to demolition works. The demolition process was completed to the agreed specification with the client, this included crushing the infill materials under the slabs for reuse in the re-development of the area. During the job ground investigation works were also carried out to ensure everything was prepped and safe for future development.
